This is the last meeting were going to have before the big California BrewFest. We have a lot to talk about.

So its that time of the month, our home brew meeting is here. We are not going to have this meeting at the park like we originally planned. The meeting will be at Rusty’s house, so put on your drinking shoes!
Bring over some snacks, or beer, or both.

From Rob:  Thanks to everyone who made our little party a success! Chuck, Robert; if either of you brew beer half as good as you cook, we are guaranteed to be taking home gold medals this year!  I’d also like to remind everyone that we decided that existing members (pre 2008) have until April 6th to pay their dues and new members have 60 days from their join date to contribute. Dues are a very reasonable $15. Anyone out of compliance by these deadlines will be deleted from the web site and barred from meetings until they contribute.  Also, spots for the Cal Home Brew fest are filling up fast, we have about 14 spots left and they are first come first serve, so get them while they last! 

Meeting Minutes:

1.      April meeting will be on April 6th in Vista at park. Proper BBQ expected; vegetarians beware! (Chuck might just throw something on the grill for those who don’t care for traditional protein meals)

2.      Rusty has nominated himself event committee chairman. If anyone wants to volunteer to be on the committee please let Rusty know he will most certainly appreciate the help.

3.      CHA fest May 2&3rd Campsites for 14 people remain. $20 per person.  First come first serve. Sites are: H31 H18 H19 H20. The CHA is providing us with a table and a pop up awning for our booth, we will need volunteers to man the taps as well as bring beer.

4.      Grain for CHA beers: The deal we were working on with OAW fell through, but Rob has negotiated a comparable price from another source and we’re going to be purchasing at least 250 lbs. This way we can provide base malt at a deep discount to anyone that’s making beer for the CHA fest in May. If anyone needs grain please talk to Rob soon so we can place that order.

5.      That said, who is planning on bringing beer? We need commitments before the next meeting.

National Homebrew Competition

Online registration only contact Allen for the correct website. Payments are accepted online $9 AHA members, $14 non-members. Clear bottles will be accepted this year (remember no labeling other than the competition label) 1st round entries muse be submitted by April 11th, if you will be submitting beers for this competition, contact Allen so we can ship all entries together.

7.      Dues are due. According to meet up we have 45 “virtual” members, but we have received dues from only fourteen people. We have $298.83 in the treasury, but we owe about $245 of that. I move that we should institute a new by-law concerning the payment of membership fees. New members will have sixty days to pay their dues, so they have a chance to attend an event or two and decide if they are interested or not. Existing members (pre 2008) will have 30 days from the beginning of the by-annum to contribute. Normally this will be January and July, but since we are still trying to get the word out, we will extend this out till thirty days from today for the current period. Failure to comply will result in a warning and then deletion from the web site and disbarment from events until dues are paid.

8.      Hop Rhizomes go on sale March 20th If you are planning on growing hops, preorder now, so you can get the varieties you want. Hop plants need 24″ spacing for same varieties and 48″ between different varieties. Hops can also be grown in 18+ gallon pots.

9.      Guest beer: Fat Tire ESB on tap at OAW next weekend! Go support the club!

10.  We have a small library started. Please donate books and brewing related magazines so we can have a repository of information for our membership. Right now Greg, Robert, Allen, have books out, just a reminder.
